Camp Ozark

A Photo Album

Building of the first dam on the White River.

Photo's Taken During The Construction Of Power-Site Dam,
Also Known As The Ozark Beach Dam.

This webpage contains the photo’s that were in an album titled “Camp Ozark”. At this time I am not sure who put the album together but I think it was Ben Parnell who ran a general store for Camp Ozark. These photo’s are a pictorial account of the building of the “Ozark Beach Dam” that was later re-named “Power-site Dam”. The construction started in November of 1911 with the land clearing and the building of support buildings that included bunkhouses, cottages, tents, store, dinning hall, and a kitchen. “Camp Ozark” was located 200 to 300 yards above the dam site that would eventually create “Lake Taneycomo”. The name Taneycomo was put together using the words Taney County Missouri. As seen in the photo’s, on February 27, 1913 the new dam was full and overflowing. This created the area’s first lake on the White River in southwest Missouri.
I will give more information as I collect it.
